I had very severe shoulder and arm pain for eight months. I had other treatment, but nothing was helping. With osteopathic treatment, ultrasound, and home stretching I had steady improvement. I feel osteopathy has helped me, even though at the beginning, when you are in a lot of pain, it's hard not to be put off. I would whole-heartedly recommend osteopathy at the "Acclaim Pain Relief Clinic".

Top Ten Tips For Your Spinal Health

Some of these tips may seem simple, but take note of them. So many of the people that I see in my practice, wouldn't be there if they had followed this advice.

  1. For back pain or any pain, it's better to see your osteopath earlier rather than later. It's much easier and cost effective to treat a twinge before it has time to become something more serious.
  2. Take regular exercise. You don't have to run a daily marathon, just do some activity that you can enjoy every day. The more varied the better (i.e. walking, cycling, swimming, yoga).
  3. Hours in one position (standing or sitting) can cause problems - avoid spending too much time bent over a computer or workbench, take frequent breaks.
  4. During repetitive tasks, vary your rhythm and also take frequent breaks.
  5. Adjust your car seat for best support and comfort, and on long journeys, take regular breaks to stretch your legs, neck and back.
  6. Pace yourself with heavy work like gardening - frequent breaks - don't risk a disc.
  7. Watch your children's posture - they shouldn't carry heavy bags on one shoulder, buy them a back-pack bag that evenly distributes the weight over both shoulders and make sure they use it properly while not overloading it.
  8. During pregnancy, osteopathy can help your body adjust to its changes and prevent problems from occurring. Regular treatment throughout pregnancy can avoid many future back and postural problems.
  9. Avoid strain when lifting, particularly when lifting small children (they're heavier than they look, and they wriggle!). Also avoid lifting and twisting your trunk without moving your feet (i.e. transfering heavy shopping bags from the shopping trolley to the boot of your car).
  10. Seek good backcare advice from your osteopath, that's what I am here for, so speak to me before you have to visit me.

Thank you, and take care with your back.
